Motoring Data Desk
Data & methodology team
Profile last updated
The Motoring Data Desk maintains our insurance-group dataset and the premium-estimate methodology used across the site. We label every figure as a typical range or estimate, never a fabricated exact quote, and document our full calculation approach on the Methodology page.
What this team is responsible for
- Maintaining the make/model insurance-group dataset behind the checker and every model page.
- Owning the premium-estimate methodology — the base rate per group and the age, postcode, car-age and cover-type multipliers.
- Making sure every figure is labelled as a typical range or estimate, never presented as a quote or an exact group we can't evidence.
- Reviewing corrections reported by readers and updating the dataset where a claim checks out.
Why we don't publish invented bylines
Plenty of sites in this space attach a fictional journalist's name and headshot to automatically-generated pages. We don't. These team profiles describe who is genuinely accountable for the content and the dataset, and we state openly where pages are drafted with AI assistance under editorial review — see our editorial policy for the full position.
