Audi insurance groups
Quick answer
Audi's range runs from the A1 in the low teens — unusually accessible for a premium badge — up past 40 for the RS models. The A1 is the outlier worth knowing about: it's the one Audi that competes on the scale with mainstream superminis.

How much does it cost to insure an Audi?
There is no single Audi insurance cost, because the range covers groups 10 to 43. So what is the average cost to insure an Audi? Across the models we cover it works out at roughly £565 a year for a driver aged 30–49 on comprehensive cover, with the cheapest entry trims near £415 and the highest-rated derivatives near £1,125. That average Audi car insurance cost is a midpoint rather than a prediction: it tells you where the brand sits against others, not what you will pay.
So is Audi expensive to insure? Not especially. Audi sits in the affordable half of the market. How much does an Audi cost to insure in practice? That depends almost entirely on which one: the Audi A1 is the cheapest model here, starting at group 10, while the Audi A4 reaches group 43 at the top of its range. That gap matters far more than the badge, which is why a model-by-model comparison beats any brand-level average.
Treat these as comparison figures rather than a Audi car insurance price you can hold us to. The average cost of Audi car insurance in your own case will also depend on your age, postcode, mileage, claims history and excess, and for an actual Audi car insurance quote you will need to price the exact derivative. The fastest way to know which derivative you are looking at is to check the registration.

The A1 is the exception that proves the rule
Premium badges usually mean premium groups, but the A1 shares its platform and engines with the Polo and Ibiza, and its ratings reflect that more than they reflect the four rings on the grille. It's the cheapest realistic route into the brand on an insurance basis by a clear margin.
S and RS change the category entirely
The S and RS models aren't a step up the same ladder — they're a different ladder. An RS Q3 sits around twenty groups above the base Q3, driven by power, bespoke parts and theft desirability. Treat them as separate insurance propositions when you're budgeting, not as a trim upgrade.
How these ratings are set
Every figure here comes from the same ABI/Thatcham 1–50 scale used across the site — there is no separate scale for a body style or a brand. See how insurance groups are decided for the rating factors behind each number, or car insurance groups explained for the wider picture. For model ranges launched since August 2024, check our Vehicle Risk Rating guide — those cars are increasingly rated on a different framework.
